Fireworks Display 2012 - Photos

Loanhead Community Development Association (LCDA) is an umbrella body for many local community groups and organisations in Loanhead. Individual local residents can also become members.

LCDA is responsible for organising several important events in Loanhead. These include the annual Street Fair and the Community Fireworks’ Display. Following the closure of Loanhead Ex-Servicemen’s Club in 2014, LCDA has also become responsible for organising Loanhead’s Remembrance Sunday Parade.

We have launched a project to replace and extend Loanhead’s ageing and limited display of Christmas Lights. For Christmas 2014 we purchased new lights for the town’s Christmas tree and new festoon lighting for use around Fountain Green. This is just a small start to a project which we envisage will take 3 – 4 years to complete.

We are also actively involved in a number of areas where we are campaigning to achieve improved facilities for everyone in Loanhead. A grant funded project to upgrade and enhance the Memorial Park has been carried out.. This is just one of several projects which LCDA has been working on for the benefit of the local community.

Following the completion of the Loanhead Neighbourhood Plan Review in November 2014, LCDA has been tasked with taking forward a number of projects to strengthen Loanhead’s separate identity and our community spirit and also to achieve various other improvements in our town. A copy of the full Neighbourhood Plan Review Report can be downloaded here.

These projects include organising a programme of events in 2019 to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the grant in 1669 of a Royal Charter permitting the holding of a weekly market every Thursday and a free annual fair beginning on 8th October and lasting for three days in the Burgh and village of Loanhead in Lasswade. This was the first official recognition of Loanhead as a community of some note and importance and is therefore a hugely significant event in the history of the Burgh.

Switch On of Loanhead's Christmas Lights, Fountain Green at 4.30 pm Saturday 5th December 2015.

A torchlight procession will start from the Library Headquarters, Clerk Street at 4 p.m. proceeding to Fountain Green where the Christmas lights will be switched on by the Gala Queen and Herald at 4.30 p.m. Santa will be there in his sleigh and MacTaggart Scott Loanhead Band is expected to be in attendance to play carols.

LCDA has purchased more lights to add to the new lights obtained last year and Loanhead's Christmas Tree should look spectacular this year. LCDA will be selling glow items at Fountain Green and all sale proceeds will help raise funds to purchase more lights for the town centre next year.

After the switch on the torchlight procession will make its way up The Loan to the Parish Church. The event at the church will include some carol singing, a reflection on Christmas and prizes will be awarded to the winning entrants of the Christmas card competition. All of the entries for the competition will be displayed in the church hall with hot dogs, snacks and coffees available.
